Jamie: Hey you're late, dude. How'd you get the kids down?
Rob: Took a little longer. I'm here now. Relax.
Jamie: How are things?
Rob: Not bad. Busy day at work. But I'm ready for this run.
Jamie: We're going with that group tonight, right? How are you?
Rob: I'm all good, but this damn running watch band keeps coming loose. It's a third time. I've replaced it already.
Jamie: So you got this on a flyer or something? What's it say again?
Rob: Uh, looking for a great jogging workout. Come run with the night flyers. We offer organized trail runs up and down the Victoria Ellen Dwyer Path system and we provide everything, including the water meet at the top of trail.
Part 2: The First Run and the Ritual
The pair arrives at the trail and meets the leaders of the Nightflyers, Antoine and Klaus, who initiate a strange ritual.
Antoine: Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for joining us. We are the Night Flyers running group, and we are absolutely ecstatic to have you here tonight.
Jamie: These guys are great. It's like a goth running club.
Antoine: We shall start by separating into two groups. All those with birthday from Jan to June shall go with Klaus. And everyone else will join me.
Klaus: As part of our ritual, we always start our runs with a simple poem. When dusk is awash with receding sun's rays, will lace up our shoes and get lost in the maze.
Klaus: For we move in the darkness, propelled by internal fire. These trails are our home with the one and only Nightflyers.
Part 3: Disappearances and Dark Discoveries
During the run, Jamie hears unsettling rumors from another runner and discovers blood on the trail while looking for his lost watch.
Other Runner: Sometimes they stop the runs for a couple of weeks and then start back up again. There's been a few members who attended regularly, but I haven't seen them in a long time.
Jamie: This trail isn't easy. It's super steep in parts. The path is overgrown with brush and the moon is pretty much obscured.
Jamie: Just gotta get back my running watch. It's gone. Damn strap.
Jamie: Is that blood? Hello? Who's there? I'm just gonna back away.
Jamie: There was a lot of it. Was it an animal or something else? But I ain't sticking around to find out.
Antoine: Jamie. Glad you could make it back. I hope you didn't run into any trouble.
Part 4: The Bar and the Missing Girl
After the run, Rob and Jamie visit a local bar where they see a news report about a string of murders.
News Reporter: Over the span of four weeks, an increasing count of unsolved homicides involving the disappearance of young women and men along various trails in and around the city has left local residents terrified.
Jamie: Rob, you see that news report? A woman was murdered. I swear it was that girl from the night flyers. Mary.
Rob: The picture they just showed was older. It looked like her, I guess.
Jamie: That night, Flyers group something seems so off about those guys and the blood I found on the path.
Rob: She did mention one thing... Members would just disappear.
Part 5: The Trap is Sprung
Despite their fears, they return for a second run, only to find themselves hunted by the group, who are revealed to be vampires.
Antoine: Tonight's course will be special. We will start on the main trail and then veer off to the old side trail.
Jamie: Oh my God, Rob, look over there. It's a body. Jesus.
Antoine: Hello, Jimmy. Is something wrong?
Jamie: Antoine, I think we just saw a dead body, and now we gotta go call the cops.
Antoine: Oh, my. That is terrible. You said one dead body. Did you see the other?
Jamie: Fuck me! Jamie, they're fucking vampires. And this whole night run thing is just a hunting exercise for the pack.
Part 6: The Secret of the Twelve Brothers
While hiding in the tunnels, they meet Ignacio, a vampire who was imprisoned by his own family.
Ignacio: My name is Ignacio, and I'm one of them. One of the twelve brothers.
Ignacio: Over two hundred years ago, my family... all lived in this village. We were vampires.
Ignacio: My brothers began to crave power... humans seemed like game. I was the only one who stood up and said no more.
Ignacio: My father was a cobbler and forged his own tools... He made us enter a blood pact... he coated the blade of the para in silver.
Ignacio: I believe the Belvoir [Pila] cannot only tear through my family, but even the slightest cut from the Silver Blade will poison them fatally.
Part 7: The Final Confrontation
Armed with the silver tool and the knowledge of the vampires' "arithmomania" (counting compulsion), they confront the pack and their grandfather at the bar.
Jamie: James, did you see how confused Antoine was? He really does have a counting compulsion.
Antoine: But now we're going to have to make a banquet dinner out of you.
Jamie: You ever try to guess the number of peanuts in a jar? Antoine?
Rob: Forty one forty two cheap tricks. One forty five forty six.
Jamie: Any serious runner will tell you. The only thing worse than straining your back is a foot injury.
Rob: Jamie. His whole foot is smoking. It's turning to dust.
The Grandfather/Bartender: You call yourselves vampires? These nasally voice nitwits just destroyed the whole lot of you.
Jamie: Rob, grab the other handle. Two man clothesline. Run em down.
Jamie: You had a good run, old man. But somewhere along the way, you lost your head.
